Possibly the Best Earbuds I personally have several pairs of headphones and earbuds ranging in several prices and brands. As far as I can tell, Koss makes the best headsets, even better than the Bose ones in my opinion, BUT these Sony earbuds must be the best earbuds I have ever owned. 1. They have excellent sound quality that I haven't really seen in many earbuds. 2. They stay where they are suppose to be, in the ear, but not really IN the ear like most earbuds, these earbuds slide into the outside of the ear and barely go into your canal, leaving little to discomfort. 3. They have bass built in, but not obnoxious bass, so you can enjoy music the way it was intended. Find this Helpful, then hit yes! Great for the money I was looking for headphones I could wear at the gym or while doing yard work. These are a comfortable fit, stay in my ear and sound great. The cord is a bit long for my tastes and activities but I use a tie wrap to shorten it. Very happy with the quality and ruggedness as well as the sound! Love them! I hate ear buds! These are the most comfortable I have ever used! I can wear them all day no problem. The flexible design will fit any ear comfortably. They sound great too! Highly recommend them!

Arkon SF150A SoundFeeder Wireless FM Transmitter
From Arkon

Simply plug the audio cord on the SoundFeeder into the headphone jack of your portable audio player. Then tune your radio to any blank FM station between 88.1 and 95.9 Mhz. Tune the knob on the SoundFeeder into that blank FM station, then sit back and enjoy your portable music through your car's radio in stereo.
Brand: Arkon Model: SF-150A Format: CD Number of items: 1 Dimensions: 4.00" h x 10.00" w x 6.00" l, 3.00 pounds
Play your portable music player in the car without upgrading to an expensive new stereo system with the Arkon SF150A SoundFeeder. The wireless FM adapter is designed to transmit the music from a portable CD player, iPod, or MP3 player to an empty frequency on your FM dial. All you have to do is plug the SF150A into your player's 3.5 mm headphone jack, and then tune the radio to any one of the blank FM stations between 88.1 and 95.9 MHz. (The transmitter works best when the station plays nothing but static.) Once you find an empty frequency, the SF150A plays your music directly through your car's stereo speakers. The sound quality is solid and reliable, though it does require precise manual tuning for best results. Listeners can also use the SF150A on other radios as well, such as home stereos or portable boomboxes. And at a mere 3.38 by 1.62 by 0.88 inches (W x H x D), the SoundFeeder takes up very little space, letting you store it in a cup holder, pocket, or other location. The SF150A runs for up to 60 hours on two AAA batteries (not included) and boasts a transmission range of 10 to 20 feet, depending on conditions. It also comes with a 6.5-inch audio cord. What's in the Box SF150A SoundFeeder, audio cord, user's manual.
Works well but with a hitch This is a great product if you do not want to move the cd player or mp3 player far from the radio you are using to transmit. I use this for my mp3/cd player and my sisters ipod on my stereo instead of wasting batteries on my media speakers and it worked well when I had the transmitter inches from the stereo, anything more than that and it gets very staticky with a lot of white noise. It does it's job but it doesn't do it well USB Power cord NOT included The photograph shows a USB power cord; the ARKON SF150A does not include such a cord. Only the ARKON SF150C does. Great Transmitter for analog tuning radio This works great with radios/receivers that have analog tuning. It is not intended for radios/receivers with digital tuning (they have a different model).

This system also features a built-in CD player with a motorized aluminum door and is compatible with MP3 & WMA files. The AM/FM tuner is perfect for enjoying your favorite radio broadcasts, while the full-function remote makes operating the system a breeze. Connection for iPod — Connect, Control & Charge your iPod. A fantastic compact stereo system This would make a perfect stereo system for a dorm room or an office. I actually bought it to hook up my electronic keyboard to an external sound source, but it's quickly become a very useful addition to my den. It sounds great. Granted, I'm no audiophile, but it sounds just as good as my Technics receiver and pair of JBL speakers (just not as loud). Keep in mind, though, that more discerning pair of ears may find these lacking. The Pros: - you can do just about everything with the supplied remote; - you can hook it up to your computer using the USB "B"-style port (like the USB ports on printers) in the back; this will install plug-and-play drivers for USB sound device and you can then use it as a sound output device (you don't need to install any drivers on the computer); - the motorised lid for the CD tray is just too cool! - built-in iPod port and ability to control iPods through the remote and stereo interface. I don't have an iPod, so I don't have any experience with this. Also, not all iPods are supported, so be sure to check the JVC website to see which models are supported. Of course, if your particular iPod is not supported, then you can simply use the Aux In port with it. - it's got a regular USB port ("A" type connector) in the front, which is, for me, the coolest part of the bells and whistles on this stereo. You can copy over your MP3s and WMAs to a USB flash drive, plug it into the USB port on the stereo, and the stereo will play the music files on it. Not only that, you can also plug in a memory card reader to the port, and then use memory cards with the reader to play music. What a great way to make use of the older digital camera flash memory cards, especially if you have one of those 12-in-1 reader types! - it has Aux In port (mini stereo plug-size) for connecting other devices (like a digital keyboard, non-iPod MP3 player, hand-held gaming consoles like Sony PSP). You can set the Aux port's input level to either of two levels. So if your external source has a fixed output volume and you find yourself scrambling for the volume control every time you switch beween Aux and other sound features, then you can use this to adjust (either increase or decrease) the Aux port's input level. The Cons: - The clock does not display when the unit's off (when it's in standby mode); - with the remote, you can't hold down the volume control to increase or decrease the volume automatically; there are 30 levels of volume, and if you want to go from volume 0 to 30, then you have to press "+ Volume" button 30 times; - On the stereo itself, I'd have preferred a knob for volume control, not + and - buttons. The Neither-here-nor-theres: - The unit can playback a maximum of 999 music files, orgainzed in up to 500 folders (same whether using a CD full of MP3s/WMAs or a USB drive/reader); - on my unit, regular audio CDs play just fine. Computer-burned audio CDs work fine. Computer-burned discs containing MP3s or WMAs keep giving "No Disc" error message (I've tried three discs burned on two computers so far). Normally this would be a deal-killer, but as I exclusively use the USB port for MP3 playback--and indeed, would still have even if I didn't have the problem with reading the MP3 discs--this is largely a non-factor for me. I bought a 2GB SD card for $14.99 and am using that for MP3 playback (had a reader already). Or you can get a brand-name 2GB USB flash drive that doesn't require a reader for $15.99 from Amazon.com. Probably be even cheaper next month. - I thought this was a bit funny: The manual basically says what kind of CD media and music files are supported, and then goes on with this disclaimer: Basically, even when all the requirements are met, MP3/WMA playback may still not work. I'm very happy with my purchase! This is the one to buy If you are looking for a shelf system this is the one to buy. I checked out the similar offerings from Sony, Philips and Panasonic. This system sounds better, build quality is great, main unit fits on a shelf nicely and interface features are far superior. The feature description for this doesn't mention how well it works with non iPod players... Great! The system can read MP3 file directly from MP3 players, Memory sticks and USB hard drives. Navigation is done from the remote and MP3 tags are displayed on the front panel. The only odd thing is the file/folder navigation is a little different from other players I have used in that you must switch "modes" to navigate folders vs files. Overall JVC got it right with this one. JVC UXEP25 Review Not a bad little player. Works well in the kitchen. I do not recomend it for large rooms because of low sound output. The part I like about it is that I can plug my USB flash stick in to listen to music. If only it had a high sound output it would be the perfect system in all homes. I turn it up to 20 and it puts out decent sound, but the volume control only goes to 30. I guess its more so personal preferrence as to volume. Overall it has not failed me yet. I would recomend it being at 100 dollars any higher it wouldn't be worth it.

DRY PAK MP3 Case w Waterproof Headphones
From Dry Pak

Waterproof Earbuds Included!
Amazon Sales Rank: #137672 in Sports & Outdoors Brand: Dry-Pak Dimensions: .20 pounds

Lost my MP3 player Bought and ruined my MP3 player. I tested the pack underwater with paper inside like the instructions suggested. But it worked for about 2 weeks and then one day it completely failed and I lost my mp3 player. Great for swimming I bought this hoping that listening to music would help me enjoy swimming. It sure did. This is a great item. Water tight seal. Great sound on the headphones. YOu do have to jam the headphones in pretty far though. Only complaint is I have a smaller MP3 and it is a little tough to get it into the smaller envelop thing for smaller MP3 players that inserts inside. It kind of sticks on the way in. Other than that, great product.

An inexpensive FM transmitter that works great! After much, and I mean MUCH, reviewing of FM transmitters for my Sansa I decided on Eforcity because of the price and features. What I see as a necessity in an FM transmitter is this: First, the ability to choose any station - a must especially if you live in the city so you can choose a station that is not being used. Some of the other more expensive transmitters gave you the option of only choosing 6 frequencies. If they're occupied or even slightly occupied you will not get a very clear signal and your FM transmitter will have to compete with that signal already being broadcast. This model has the ability to search up or down to find a frequency that works best. Second, multiple power sources - This model came with both a car power adapter and will also run on one AAA battery. What I like about this is that I can broadcast my mp3 signal over any digital radio anywhere. This comes in handy at home or when I'm at a friend's house and want them to listen to a cool new song on my mp3 player. It has a pretty decent range also. I tried it at home from about 20 feet away from the radio and had no problems. What's cool about this is that you could have a radio tuned to your frequency in different rooms and walk around your house and hear your music from your mp3 player. Yeah, I know I'm getting off track. Anyway, it's a great find at a great price. I didn't have any problems with Eforcity either. It took about a week and a half to ship however. But worth the wait. Dont Dangle the Transmitters. If you buy one of these great transmitters then do these simple things to improve your odds of having it work for at least 1 1/2 Years. A) Don't dangle the transmitter from the input wire or car charger wire. Make sure the wires and transmitter are properly supported. I think a hair tie would do the trick. B) Don't pull on the wires a lot or they will fray and stop transmitting or powering the device. Ive been using the same rechargeable AAA batteries in mine for over a year. C) Tune your radio to a station with nothing playing & with as little interference as possible. There should be NO SOUND coming from your radio when it is CRANKED ALL THE WAY UP ON THIS STATION! - Then tune the Transmitter to that station showing on your radio. D) Turn your MP3 player all the way up when using the transmitters. Think of it as thickening up the broadcast signal and making it easier for your radio to see. Plus your radio wont hurt its ears when listening to the signal anyways. I actually like to go fishing on the shore.. I turn my car radio up all the way and the iPod all the way. Then I can adjust the loudness & songs from my pocket - 20 to 25 feet away from my car. E) Noise Suppression Spark plugs and wires help get rid of your beaters buzz in your car stereo. ____________________________________________________________ How i Learned this junk - ( The hard way.....with my brain ) ____________________________________________________________ I had the exact same transmitter and the input wire frays or breaks inside of the casing ... making the unit stop transmitting or causing the signal to break in one or both of the speakers on the left & right. I bought my old transmitter back in Oct 2005 and as of June 2007 I have had no problems with it. I did dangle the thing by the wire and pulled on the wire sometimes. The transmitter still works but the wire inside of the casing is shot making the left side speakers break in and out when I use it. At $14.95 I bought 2 More - these are re-branded bulk items BTW. My old one was called "Beam-It by iRock". Now the things are all black and branded under " Eforcity's " Logo... I only hope the insides are the same as my old one. If your getting a buzzing sound matching engine noise in your car I think its time for some new noise suppression wires & plugs, your probably arcing somewhere in your engine bay and losing power to boot. I hope this helped someone. Thanks, Original MF'er Eforcity Black Universal All Channel FM Have had a little problem with frequency shifting after the unit gets warm. Trying to find an open channel on the FM dial isn't as easy as it sounds especally while traveling. Takes a little tweeking to keep clear reception.

Macally SN-ICEFM FM Transmitter and Charger for SanDisk Sansa MP3 Players
From Macally

Listen to your iPod through your car radio and charge it at the same time. Macally IceFM is a sleek and compactly designed FM transmitter and charger for iPod. Simply plug the IceFM to your car cigarette lighter outlet, connect your iPod, switch to one of the preset FM channel and enjoy your favorite tunes in your car.
Brand: Macally Model: SN-ICEFM Original language: English Dimensions: .30 pounds

Charger yes, transmitter no Works fine as a USB charger, but transmits a very low signal. You have to crank your radio up to max to barely hear anything, the background noise is louder then what you are trying to play and the noise is coming from the transmitter. The FM channel choices should work in my area as there is next to no signal on them from a radio station. But as soon as it is plugged in the background noise is horrific. I even tried soldering some wire onto the transmitting antenna and putting it next to the cars antenna and it made no difference. My ipod with a Monster transmitter works flawlessly on the same frequencies. Charger Yes: Transmitter No. The unit works fine for charging my sandisk mp3 player, but I can not get a clear broadcast through any of the available FM frequencies. No Sound You only have three choices of stations to use for transmission, two of which were already occupied. The third station should have worked but we were only able to get sound by turing the volume all the way up and even then it was quiet and poor quality. The only good thing was that Amazon was good about the return.

Kensington Car Mount for iPod; iPhone 1G, 3G; and MP3 Players (Black)

Secure your iPod or MP3 player in place while you drive. Flexible arm adjusts to hold player firmly no matter how bumpy the roads. Secure your iPod or MP3 player in place while you drive. Flexible arm keeps your iPod in view and within easy reach. Features Flexible arm keeps your iPod in view and within easy reach. Works with most most iPods and MP3 players, including the iPhone--even when in a case. Universal mount designed to fit all cars; installs in seconds. Oversized suction cup is strong enough for even the roughest roads. One-button quick release lets you grab your iPod and go. Adjustable feet prevent your iPod from falling when released. Includes super-strong adhesive pads for alternative mounting locations. Auxiliary-in cable included to play music directly through car stereo. Great Quality, But Length = Shakey --Kensington Car Mount for iPod/phones -- Pros: I've tried several similar products, and the Kensington has the best of all the button features to "open" the clamps around your device--very James-Bondish the way the holder slowly opens to allow your device out. The overall quality of the Kensington is excellent--it feels like a well-made holder. Cons: The greatest asset of the holder--its long length--is also its biggest WEAK point. Even with good construction and a firm grip on my phone, the arm is just too long to stay rigid during travel and the whole things vibrates and shakes around while you're driving. If you're looking to your phone or GPS for directions, you'd be hard pressed to read your device easily. The long arm is also a bit "awkward" in a smaller car; the size of the thing and its conspicuousness on your dash seems a bit, well, "undercover police car"-ish. Bottom Line: even with solid quality and a good setup, I returned the Kensington--the road vibrations from a long arm made my device too jittery to enjoy. The best quality suction cup device holder I've ever seen! There are so many of these on the market that are very cheaply made but this one from Kensington is so well made and sturdy! I love the features: * you can move the bottom holders to avoid charger cables, * you can get your devices out extremely easily! Just pinch the device and your finger naturally falls on the back of the holder's release button * you can TURN the thing sideways once you mount your iPhone or iPod Touch and see movie (don't do this while driving) * you can EASILY move the suction cup from place to place (like on the side window and use your phones speaker function when you don't own an earpiece) Great for iPhone in a case Unlike other iPhone specific windshield mounts, this Kensington product allows you to place your iPhone in it regardless of what type of case you are using. The suction cup stays on like a champ in all sorts of temperature extremes. And the grip on the phone is very secure, yet easy to release with a single button click.

Silicone skin for Creative Zen 16 GB Creative Zen 8 GB Creative Zen 4 GB + BONUS Adjustable Workout Armband + BONUS Removable Beltclip + MORE BONUS Screen protector and cloth (Hot Pink)

Color: Hot Pink Brand: Unknown

Everything but screen protector. I like the case. I like the belt clip. I haven't used the armband. My problem is with the screen protector. As you may have read, many people have fought with them. I didn't really have problems applying it, only a few air bubbles. The problem is the quality of the plastic on the screen protector. The plastic was dirty and scratched when I got it! It didn't clean off, I think some of the dirt is on the sticky part. I cleaned the screen and I never touched the screen protector. It's just really poor quality. I don't know if it's just mine, or they are all like this... I just feel that if I am going to buy a nice mp3 player with a nice screen, I should get at least a decent screen protector so it doesn't hurt the quality. Also, don't think the cloth is a great deal. It's a little thin piece of cloth half the size of a toilet paper square. Eh, It's So-So... Well, it does what is says- protect the Zen. It fits well and all the buttons are accessible. My problems with it is: the color is WAY off. I bought the blue one thinking it was going look like the picture (cerulean blue) but instead, this thing was NAVY. Second, it feels cheap-y, like some kind of cheap plastic, and the armband and belt attachments are U-G-L-Y and look cheap as well. I just wont use the armband or belt hook. I kept it because it was only 12 dollars and I wanted something to protect my Zen, so it will do. But there are better ones out there!! Disappointing - cheap and unrealistic This product is not worth the money - even though it's relatively inexpensive, it cost half the price of the item to ship and the product is JUNK. The silicone case is ok, but very THIN. The arm band (which is what I was really wanting) is WAY TOO SMALL for a normal person's arm, and it has barely any give. The screen protector is not sized to fit the zen screeen, which was annoying because I am not about to sit and try to cut it to fit, and the belt clip is the cheapest plastic, I would never use it for fear it would break and the ZEN would fall right off my belt. I was very DISAPPOINTED with the product I received.

Car Cassette Adapter For MP3,iPod,XM,CD,MD,Sirius
From coolstuff4u

This cassette adaptor allows you to connect your minidisc or CD player to a vehicle cassette player. This product works well with any audio players, the adaptor will operate with non-Sony products as well. There are a couple of key features to this adaptor which make it a fine choice.
Amazon Sales Rank: #766 in Consumer Electronics Brand: Coolstuff4u Dimensions: 3.00 pounds

No more FM transmitter for me! What I wanted was to use an FM transmitter to pipe my iPod and my Sirius radio. Unfortunately I live in a big city (Phoenix, AZ) and in my route to work the radio stations change just enough that I cannot find any FM stations to transmit on without interference. I have a 2002 Porsche Boxster S and for whatever reason, Porsche put a tape deck in that model stereo. I bought this tape adapter and presto no more FM transmitter! I had to make the modification mentioned in a review for "Coby CA-747 Dual Position CD/MD/MP3 Cassette Adapter" to bypass the automatic tape flip feature. (It seems to be fairly common for people to have to do this with tape adapters.) The Porsche unit has a door that flips open and closed to access the tape deck. This door must be closed for the unit to play. I had to carefully feed the tape adapter cord through the face plate in a place where it did not pinch it upon closing the door. This turns out to be the middle top of the face plate. This tape adapter unit works like a charm. I've only had it for a week but I already love it. One thing I noticed in using a tape adapter with the ipod is that the sound quality improves if I only turn the ipod volume up to 50% and use the stereo volume for the rest of the sound. I plug this adapter unit directly into the iPod. I don't notice any static or distortion now that I balanced the iPod volume. iPod/Mp3 cassette adapter to play in car I had heard bad things about quality etc. I was very impressed. It sounds as good as anything else that I play in the car, you can not buy cassettes anymore but now I can play my iPod and my daughter's MP3. And you can't beat the price even if it didn't work well. Simple but it works! This is very low-tech but honestly this is TONS better than those radio-frequency models that drive you batty when you enter any large-ish City.

Fantastic headphones I've owned a pair of these for about 5 years now, both at my desk at work and while walking. Most people either put up with substandard performance of the ones that come with their music device, or buy a set of $20 headphones and are happy with the mediocre sound. I bought these for the sound quality, and haven't been disappointed. They sound _great_. The sound rivals anything under $70-$80 (especially if you like rock), has plenty of bass and good response overall. These even sound better than the Bose noise-cancelling headphones, though that's not saying much. My one complaint would be that I use mine so much that I've managed to break off the plastic covering the wire solder, and have had to get (free) replacements. Buy a pair, hook em up to your CD/tape/mp3 player, and enjoy. Forgot How Great These Are I had a pair back in High School in the 80's used with a Walkman. These are very lively compared to Sennheiser PX 100's. If you prefer classical music then I would go with the PX 100. From Pop, Hip-Hop, Jazz and Rock these are the best for sound and definitely price for Ipods and MP3 players. I thought about a pair of Grado SR60's but these were much cheaper and more portable. Who wants to walk around with a six foot cable? Trust me guys, these are the one to buy. They bring out the passion in your music. Meets all my needs I've had mine for 2 years, use them exclusively for my laptop when everyone in the house is asleep and I want to play a game or listen to a radio stream, mp3s or youtube. These rate a 5 on comfort, which is my main concern. I can't legitimately comment on the sound, since I'm no audiophile, but I've never noticed any problem with the sound. They're not really "noise-cancelling," but that's good for me...I need to hear the baby monitor. I'll probably buy a second pair for the office.

Sennheiser CX 400 In-Ear Headphone (Black)
From Sennheiser

The Sennheiser CX 400-B is a high quality, noise isolating in-ear headphone with powerful, bass-driven stereo sound for listening on the go. Solid earbuds with some things to consider- 4.5 Stars This is a great set of earbuds. They sound terrific and have plenty of bass. I also ordered the V-Moda Bass Freqs because I like to "feel" the music in my head, but after listening to the CX400, I'm not sure how much more bass I really want. They really do have great bass. Keep in mind that you must use the silicon tip (3 sizes included) that makes a tight seal and is comfortable for you. For me, it was the medium ones. The thing with this style of earbud is that unless you fit them securely into your ear canal, you wont hear ANY bass. But once you situate them correctly, the sound is very high quality. You can hear that really low tight bass that most earphones can't reproduce. The mids and high (voice and treble freq) are nice and clear and totally distortion free. Of course, for audiophiles the sound is less than accurate (thats why only 4.5 stars), but for most listeners the sound from these little $35 buds is superb! Another thing to consider with this type of earbud is that you will hear pretty much all vibration against the cord. That's just an inherent feature of this type of plug. Rubbing of the cord against anything will cause a wind-like noise in your ear, however, I found that if you clip the wire to your shirt with a little slack it's minimal, and while your music is actually playing the sound is easily ignored in the background. The only other thing I didnt care too much for was the cord length(s). Without the included extension the cord is about 1.5ft, which is only good for an armband or your shirt pocket. The extension adds 3ft, so the result is 4.5ft of cable dangling if you wear your player in your pocket. I had to coil up some of the wire into a small loop and placed a twisty-tie on it to keep in control. I can live with it since the quality makes up for it. The cord and connectors are as high quality as I've seen, although there doesn't seem to be much protection from yanking the cord from the connector that goes in the player. The silicon tips are comfortable, although I don't wear them for prolonged periods. They seem like they will not come off the bud easily so you're less likely to lose them. They do a fairly good job of isolating, but they don't isolate completely unless your playing music at a reasonable level. I don't like being totally out of it in la-la-land so this was just right for me. I know you can get the CX300 for about $5 cheaper, but the CX400 comes with a wind up gizmo (doesn't work well when extension cord is used) and a nice black leather pouch. While I cant confirm, I would bet the 400 is also slight superior to the 300 in sound quality. All in all, these are the best $35 you could likely spend on earbuds. Even at $50, these would be a good value, but the value would start to diminish if priced any higher. At this price point ($35), there's really no reason NOT to have a pair of these. For those looking for the cheapest option ($20 or so), spring a little more and get these or at least the CX300. Distortion free, well-balanced earbuds for this price is a rare find - THANK YOU AMAZON! Just make sure you can live with the in-ear canal earphones, they're not for everyone. UPDATE: I got my V-Moda Bass Freqs and have been using both for a few days now. Here is what I noticed. The V-Moda buds have more bass, a fairly distinguishable amount more bass. Quite impressive actually. I like the cord much better (no extension, just one length). The cord wrap gizmo is much better, but no pouch is included. That's about it. In terms of sound quality, the V-Moda buds just aren't as good. With my iPhone equalizer off, the V-Moda buds sound muffled - significantly lacking mids and highs. It's mostly just bass. The only equalizer setting that made them sound good was the Acoustic setting. The Senheisers are just so much more balanced. Sure, the bass sounds weaker when you compare them to the V-Moda buds, but thats because the V-Moda have so much. I like a lot of bass, but not ALL bass. The sound has to be well balanced to sound good. Stick with the Senheisers. much better sound and enough bass to keep you happy. I'm tempted to try the higher end V-Moda buds. They may have the balanced sound along with all that bass. For now, I still say these CX-400s are a steal at this price. Better than Bose about a year ago I bought a pair of bose in ear headphones, but recently they started to stop working, the wire was loose. This was devistating, I paid $99.99 for them, and at the time the sound quality was great, until I found these. The sound quality is sooo much better than bose, and the fit of these in the ear is better than bose, they do NOT fall out, the bass is deep, and all the sounds are clear and crisp. Unlike the bose, these block out alot of background noise, I would STRONGLY reccommend them to anyone who was thinking about buying the bose headphones. (don't pay more than $20 for them, that is the best price for them) Great sound, mediocre ergonomics The sound quality of these headphones is phenomenal. Crystal clear, with a balance between the highs and lows, without neglecting the midrange (most speakers seem to do that). However, I'm a little frustrated with the ergonomics. You have to jam the earbud into your ear canal in order to get the full good sound. This makes it uncomfortable after awhile. They fall out of my ears when I'm exercising too. And finally, the cord is too short - it's not long enough to span my ear down to my pants pocket. The headphones come with an extender but it just adds a hassle and too much wire. I wish the main wire was just 6 inches longer.

CD Case with Built-in Speakers
From JVC

Plug your portable CD/DVD player, or laptop computer, and the case becomes a powerful speaker. The SP-AP300 Series is a disc case with built in NXT flat-panel speaker technology, which creates special and dynamic sound. It stores up to 20 discs (using included disc holder), or it has an internal space to store your portable CD player.
Brand: JVC Model: SP-AP300A Dimensions: 7.56" h x 10.04" w x 2.68" l, .0 pounds

CD Case with built-in speaker Sound quality is good. Very low price. But... Monophonic only. CD player takes up much of interior space. No tone controls. Short hook-up cord. CD player inaccessible when closed. Not weatherproof. No carrying strap (has snap hook for belt). Relatively bulky and heavy. Lacks auto power-off for speaker. Case is somewhat rigid. LOVE IT! I purchased this portable CD case with speaker several years ago. The reason I bought it was so I could impress a man with love songs in a remote romantic location...that night didn't quite go as planned, so I ditched the guy and kept the CD/portable speaker!! I absolutely love this thing and it has gone with me on trips to Australia, California, Virginia, Cape Cod, and many others. The only down side is it does seem to wear down the batteries in my CD player rather quickly, but I'm not sure if it's the speaker itself as opposed to just the model of CD player I'm using. For those of us that are not always so technologically advanced or the first to jump on new technology ~ this CD/speaker is great! I've had three friends order this product after vacationing with them...they love the versatility and they are all ipod addicts! THIS LITTLE GUY IS AWESOME! For the money, the size & portability this thing is great. I've always heard JVC puts out good product. It sounds great! As much as you can expect from a little, portable player. I love it. I use it for my MP3 player when I am out running, walking with my son. It hooks right on the stroller. & if you need more room inside you can just pop out the cd sleeves. Not a bad deal at all!!

Cellular Innovations Tune Free FM Transmitter for MP3 Players
From CELLULAR INNOVATIONS

Brand: Cellular Innovations Model: IP-FM Dimensions: 2.50" h x 5.25" w x 8.25" l, .25 pounds

Best FM transmitter money can buy. This is a very good FM transmitter. I always use to have static interference with my old plug-in transmitter. This one has not had any static problems and works flawlessly. You can take it anywhere and make use of its very good range. One time I used it to make my own radio station that my roommates could listen to on their radios. Cons: - It needs battery replacements every 15-20 hours. (last me 3 weeks at the rate that I used it.) - Blue LED in the front is WAY too bright. Noisy - and what's with the blinding blue light? I intended to use this in the house rather than the car, so keep that in mind. It might work well in the car, I haven't tried it yet. But, in the house, it has three big issues: 1. Loud background noise. 2. Volume on source (iPod or whatever) AND amplifier must be cranked. 3. The light indicating the device is turned on is incredibly bright, ridiculously so. That's got to eat batteries. I wouldn't recommend this product. Tune Free better than named brands I tried other namd brands Blelkin etc and this is by far the best product. The others just do not work.

No batteries or AC connection required, since the speakers are powered from your audio device.
Color: Black Brand: Audio-Technica Model: AT-SP21 BK Dimensions: 9.50" h x 2.00" w x 4.00" l, .30 pounds

Good solution for the price and no batteries! I received a set of these speakers as part of a corporate gift bag. I've used them for at least two years and they just gave out on me. Just logged on here to buy another pair. I travel a bit for work and I have found these to be a perfect solution for listening to my tunes in the car and the hotel without having to worry about carrying the right adapters, having batteries, etc. The sound isn't great but I listen to podcasts a lot (spoken word) and they work just fine for that purpose. I'm buying another pair if that tells you what I think of them. Can't beat the price. These Speakers Can Speak To Me These speakers really fill a niche created by the ipod touch since Apple created the App Store. When I downloaded a lot of games for my 1st generation ipod touch (no internal speakers) I found I needed some portable speakers to get full enjoyment out of my ipod touch without having to put earphones on all the time. These speakers definitely fit the bill. The best feature of these speakers is that they are powered from the device they're attached to - meaning no batteries are needed(!) There are tiny speakers available from retail stores that can attach to the ipod touch, but they all need batteries. Believe me, feeding batteries into speakers gets real old, real fast. These connected, folding speakers don't separate, but they can be used either opened or closed. I also like that the speakers are held in the closed position with a slightly magnetic closing and that there is a groove which provides a convenient wraparound for the speaker wire. While they are slightly larger and heavier than other similar compact speakers, they are still small enough to it in a purse or a pocket. So my 4 star rating says "I like them" but I didn't spring for 5 stars. Why not? Because in spite of the obvious attention to design and portability that went into these speakers, at the end of the day, the ability of speakers to amplify sound is what separates the great ones from all the other ones. The biggest problem with small speakers is that they tend to sound pretty thin. To a certain extent, this problem is intrinsic to the form factor, but I guess I was also a little hopeful that Audio-Technica, a leader in the sound engineering industry, would put more resources into attempting to overcome this limitation. Although these speakers have a slightly larger form factor than other speakers, I can't honestly say that the sound quality justifies the larger form. Another factor is the length of the connecting wire. On portable accessories such as these, the connecting wire is often too long and gets in the way. For these speakers, I think that Audio-Technica went too far in the other direction. If you are using these speakers with an ipod touch to play games, you tend to hold the device close to your face. The speakers are too heavy to dangle from the ipod touch, so ideally, they should be able to rest on your lap. Unfortunately, the speaker wire isn't quite long enough for that. I would have loved a retractable speaker wire so the length could be adjusted as needed. Also, be advised that because the speakers are powered by the device, you may not hear your content unless your device's volume is turned up pretty high. That said, I do like the speakers, especially for playing games or listening to spoken word podcasts, where only passable sound quality is needed. I carry them with me much of the time. Also, the speakers are priced very reasonably, so they are a good value just from the money you can save on battery purchases alone. Bottom line: I would recommend them. I can't honestly say that they chart a new path for sound quality, but they do get the job done. Great little speakers The speakers provide plenty of sound for their size. Just plug into your USB port and you are ready to go. I would have prefered a dial vice + and - buttons for volume. The plastic connecter between the speakers is a bit difficult. Nice carrying case.

FM Converter works well -- no fuss at very reasonable price! Like so many, we have no auxiliary input in our car to handle our (Creative Zen) hard-disk music player. We've been looking at using an FM converter for quite some time, but have been put off by the many negative reviews -- and unwilling to fork over $40 or $50 for something that sounds troublesome at best. When we had the chance to acquire one of these new Cables-To-Go units for a very reasonable price (...), we figured we'd give it a try despite the lack of reported user experiences. To our delight, we merely plugged it in to our car's cigarette lighter port, adjusted the viewing angle of the unit, turned it on and just picked for starters the lowest frequency it supports -- 88.1. We then plugged in the clever retractable cord mini-plug to the unit with the other end to our player, hit play, and away we went with absolutely no problems! A one time adjustment to the sound level of the source lets us listen at the same volume as other sources (CD player, actual FM, etc.) and we couldn't be more pleased with the clarity and quality of this solution so far. We haven't yet taken a long trip where competing FM stations might be a problem, but suspect all will be well given the outstanding performance of the unit locally. Our only quibble might be that the bright white finish of the item clashes a little in the car -- a neutral gray might have been preferred. (We plan to eventually hide it in our console anyway...) The lighted LED panel indicates what frquency is being used, and the auto-shutoff seems to work fine without doing something silly like shutting down during a quiet passage of music. Overall -- so far, so good !!! Very good sound. I tried this mainly because the reviews of all the other transmitters I could find were poor. This one has been a very pleasant surprise. The sound quality is very good, and there is no static---it does its job. My only quibble is the fixed number of transmission channels, though I have not had a problem finding an open channel; the channel LED's are a little dim and tough to see in daylight. In general, I would recommend this transmitter; and it is a good value. Variable static over most frequencies I bought this product a few weeks ago. The main problem with the product is that there is static that interferes with the sound quality. I have tried most frequencies - and the thing is that on an empty frequency the signal is great as long as the engine is turned off. Once you start the car this leads to static. Given that some users have reported that they are satisfied with the product it might just be a function of the car you drive!

Ultrasone Zino S-Logic Natural Surround Sound Portable Headphone
From Ultrasone Inc.

Music lovers, concerned about the effects that ear buds have on their hearing, will be glad to know a safer and better sounding headphone solution is here. Ultrasone introduces a new portable headphone called Zino. Designed for use with iPods, MP3 players and other portable music players, Ultrasone’s Zino features the company’s patented S-Logic™ and ULE™ safe listening technologies in an ultra-mobile design. Ultrasone has given the Zino a sleek, modern look with gunmetal black, brushed aluminum ear cups and silver colored diamond-cut aluminum nameplates. Even though the Zino was designed for mobile applications, it features two powerful 40mm gold plated drivers, which most commonly are found in full-sized studio headphones. The Zino’s foldable design allows for easy storage and safe transportation in the included hard carrying case. Despite its small size, the Zino utilizes Ultrasone’s patented S-Logic™ technology. Rather than directing the sound to the listener’s ear canal, as most conventional headphones do, S-Logic technology employs decentralized drivers that direct audio to the listener’s outer ear. This technology not only gives the user a natural surround experience in a stereo headphone by utilizing the ear’s anatonomy, but it also reduces sound pressure on the eardrums by an astonishing 40%. Additionally, the Zino features MU-Metal shielding (ULE technology) that reduces the amount of radiation directed to the listener by up to 98%, as compared to conventional headphones.
Color: Black Brand: Ultrasone Model: ZINO

Great product, great sound! After a disappointing experience with the Senheiser PX200s, I placed an order for the Zinos. I was a bit skeptical about them at first, not having any experience with Ultrasone in the past. I was looking very hard at the AKG K450, but decided to try the Zinos before I made the jump in price to the AKGs after having read some good things about Ultrasone online. I do not regret that decision. My main set of headphones are the AKG K701. They're probably one of the best headphones you can buy, but not very portable. The Zinos are exactly what I was looking for. They're lightweight, portable, and pretty handsome looking as well. They have great sound quality. And they price is reasonable for what you're getting. The sound doesn't match the K701s, but the Zinos are the best portable headphone I've heard yet. I listen to a wide range of music. Contemporary jazz, alt, rock, trance, some hip hop, even a bit of country, and this is what I've found. The low end is accurate and solid. It's not overwhelming like so many 'phones these days; if you're looking for huge thumping bass, these don't do that. The midrange is a bit forward, but not too much so, and it's smooth and detailed. The high end is smooth, clear, not overly bright. A very pleasant sound overall. The sound-stage is a bit wider, more "out of head" than most headphones because of the positioning of the transducer in the headphone. Ultrasone calls is S-Logic. Some may not like this, but I don't find it objectionable. It lends a nice spactiousness to the sound I think. These headphones are a bit larger than what you may typically find for a portable on ear headphone; they cover my entire ear. They are very comfortable though, the padding is thick and covered in cloth, instead of vinyl, so they don't get hot or moist like most other headphones after long periods of use. They are very light as well, without feeling cheap or fragile. I can barely feel them when wearing them. The only downside that some may find is the size again, especially the case, which is a bit large. If these are too big though, you're probably best of going with a set of earbuds anyways. If you care about good, accurate sound, and are looking for something more portable than full sized reference sets, these are definitely highly recommended! Suround Sounds eminate from the Ultrasone ZINO! If you are looking for a high quality, Very comfortable and stylish headphones with Great sound you are in luck. The Germans know how to make nice stuff. Because of this Ultrasone suceeds with the Zino which was designed to work with Ipods, Zunes, and all other MP3 Players. I noticed many new sounds while listening to my music that I had never heard before. The bass is not overbearing and the S-Logic Tech makes the music sound more spacious and awsome. To test these headphones I listened to a wide range on music from each genre. Eminem and Fitty Cent sounded awsome with the bass at the right levels. The Eletronic/House music of Daft Punk and Justice sounded extremely Detailed and despite the fast pace and numerous sounds never sounded convoluted or muffled. Rock/ and Metal sounded awsome with the guitar riffs of Led Zeppelin, Disturbed and AC/DC. Overall any type of sound that eminates from these headphones sounds great. You get what you paid for and these headphones at $100 dollars are worth the cost. These are not sound-isolating headphones however and other people will be able to hear the music you are listening to. If this is a problem I recomend getting other headphones. The headphones are VERY comfortable and I forget I am wearing them sometimes. You can also fold them up and put them in a small case. I do not recomend these headphones for running as they are not designed to stay on your head during exercise. Overall Great Product. 90/100 The Best Portable Headphones In This Price Range These are the greatest portable headphones I've owned. I own the Ultrasone PRO-650s and was blown away from the sound they delivered. I wanted the 650's experience in a more portable format as the 650's are huge and not conducive outside of a studio/home-listening environment. I have to say I am very impressed by the sound produced from these cans. These are open so you will have little in terms of sound reduction form the outside world. As far as the size goes, I have been wearing them now for an hour and they feel great. Some of the other reviews mentioned the discomfort due to head size and I can see where they are coming from. If my head were bigger I would imagine the pressure over the ears. I think they would have to be broken in. The material used to cover ear pads feels very nice for prolonged sessions as so far I can barely tell they've been there. The openness of the fabric lets your skin breathe not allowing sweat and heat to be bothersome. Overall, they are very comfortable. The great part is the sound quality. It might be an acquired taste but the being able to hear all of the bass and highs at low levels without blasting my ears to smithereens is true genius of Ultrasone's products. I have not tried the Akai, Grado or Sony line for long periods of time but doing a brief sound check of those lines (can't remember model numbers, this was years ago) the Ultrasone line sounded the best to me. I listen to many electronic genres if that helps anyone. I have so far listened to 2562's "Unbalance" album and FaltyDL's "Bravery" and am very satisfied with the sound production. Going to be moving on the Paul White's "The Strange Dreams of Paul White" album next with anything from Burial, The xx or Leyland Kirby to end the night and do not see any issues coming from these cans. If there is anything to wonder about purchasing these it is the following. First, the cord is long enough for portable MP3 players meaning the cord will reach into a pocket (around waist level, cord length is 1.2m) and that's it. The phones come with a hard case but with phones this size the case looks like a mini hip-pack. Easily carried in a bag (I will be throwing these into my bag for work). Also, unlike the higher end Ultrasone's, the ear cups, cables, etc are not user replaceable. Enjoy!

Second Look at the JBuds J3 Micro Atomic In-Ear Earphones In an earlier review, I mentioned that these high-quality JBuds J3s were too treble-heavy for my tastes, which too much sound in the upper register instead of a balanced sound. Of course, sound is subjective and many may find these $30 J3s worth the money. I posted this review on Amazon and my blog and got an email from JLab Audio telling me that they were "surprised" by my criticism, that my critique contradicted focus groups and their "overwhelming conclusions." The email also implored me to consider removing my review until I made a more thorough evaluation. JLab Audio makes similar requests to Amazon reviewers who give their product less than sterling praise. Clearly, JLab cares about their customer feedback and wants evaluations to be both thorough and they also make it clear that the earbuds should go through a breaking-in process, playing the buds through the earphone jack for 24 hours straight. I want to be fair so I deleted my Amazon review and want to give my evaluation as a "second look," having allowed my J3s to go through the breaking-in process. I am comparing my $30 J3s to the $14 J2s, listening to them through a C.Crane CCR-2, a Sangean WR-2, and an iPod. For me, the J2s, while not offering the same brightness and dynamic volume as the J3s, are for me the better deal. Simply put, I just find too much treble in the J3s at the expense of other sound range resulting in a less than balanced listening experience. On my CCR-2 radio, I turned the treble all the way down to mitigate the J3's upper end effect. On the Sangean WR-2, the high-end was also too much for me. Same story with the iPod. Now I expect many will be happy with the bright sound in the upper register. It's just too much for me. JLab makes a good product. I bought their original JBuds and still use them as my travel buds and I love them as they're very comfortable. The J2s offer better fidelity than the originals. I use them for my bedside radio. The J3s for me offer too much treble but definitely bring a brightness that many will enjoy. Update: JBuds contacted me and offered me to exchange my J3s for two pair of J2s. Kudos to JBuds for accommodating my preference for the J2s. Amazing improvement even over the J2! I purchased the J2 earbuds before doing some serious flying beginning in mid-summer, and I was well pleased with the quality on them. My husband kept teasing me about the color--a lovely pink!--and it took some time to convince him to actually give them a listen. When he finally did, he was blown away, and caved on the idea of getting his own. Neither of us are huge audiophiles, but I'm a bit more picky about overall sound quality than he is. I still haven't found a set of iPhone speakers that I'm satisfied with after 2 years of searching. I came to Amazon to purchase a set of J2's in white, and found that the J3 version had just been released. Reading up, I knew we needed to give these a try instead, and ordered the Titanium Silver for him. As mentioned both in reviews and by JLab, you MUST allow these earbuds (and the J2 model) to burn in before you're going to get the fullest range of sound. Even so, my husband was utterly stunned the first time he used his new pair. He raved about them so much, I stole them for an hour to compare to my now well-used J2's, and I found improvements all the way around. Even with a fresh out of the box pair that had perhaps a few hours of burn in time, the trebles are incredibly clear, and the bass to my ear is both significantly deeper and clearer in tone. (I'm a bass girl, this was the most important thing for me.) The audible background "hiss" you can hear on older or poorer quality mp3s is even muted. I bought a new Paparazzi Pink pair for myself that night, and my J2's have been relegated to emergency backup status. With the release of the J3, J2 models are at an exceptional price, but these are so superior that they're well worth the extra money. Little things: The new packaging is fabulous; I hope more companies start working with Amazon to switch over to this type of packing material. The little case provided with the J3 model is a big plus. I have the larger case for travel and this one is way more convenient for daily use. It's small enough to slip into a shirt or jacket pocket. Four sizes of silicone ear buds will make it much easier to fit for some. I did transfer over mine from the J2 as the material from those feels a bit thinner and I preferred the old color My husband found he was most comfortable using different sizes for each ear, so having the wider variety of sizes worked well for him. His only complaint is that even with the best fitting pair, occasionally he finds the fit to be almost too tight to the point of pressure-induced discomfort. Most of the time, it's not a problem. He did have ear issues as a child and I suspect this may be a factor, as I have had no trouble at all with either model. For reference, both pair are being used with 1st gen iPhones for music and audiobooks. I use the EQ settings for the iPod function, he makes no adjustments. Overall, one of the best products I've bought in any category this year! The new J3s - great fit, stylish, & exceptional sound quality! I purchased this item after having the JBuds J2 earphones for a few months and I can say from personal experience that these earphones are extremely improved from its predecessor, the J2s. The new sleek and slim design fits comfortably into the ear and with four different size tips, one surely has to fit. The cord is very durable even though it is slightly slimmer than the previous model. Also, the four different colors JLab Audio offers helps personalize this product towards your individual preference. After "burning-in" the new J3s, I noticed an overall clear, high quality sound. I've tested this with a variety of music and have noticed improved highs and bass as well. Some people have commented that that there is too much treble but I haven't really noticed this. After you do a "burn-in," the sound quality should significantly improve. The sound is perfect for me but I am just your average music lover, not an audiophile. When listening to music with these earphones, I notice instruments I've never heard before on my standard iPod earphones. These earphones are great for its price and I expected no less from JLab Audio. Although I am not a sound expert, these earphones should live up to your expectations. The J3's deliver exceptionally on many attributes and are definitely superior to other earphones in its price range. The new and improved J3s are worthy of 5 stars for me. I have had no problems with this product so far and the 1 year warranty that JLab offers should hopefully suppress any worry you might have regarding its durability. The mini case these earphones come with is also a wonderful addition. It is convenient, small, and perfect for travel. Whether you are new to JLab products or a returning customer, you should be satisfied with the J3 earphones. I use them every day and just love this product! I am also impressed at the customer service JLab Audio provides. They really do care about their customer and making their products better. Thumbs up to JLab Audio and the new J3's! This is one of the best purchases I have made this year!

Works very well and is cheaper than an FM transmitter For those of us with older cars that don't come equiped with an iPod dock, this is the next best thing. I read reviews of iPod FM adapters that broadcast the music on the iPod to an FM station on your car radio. Every review I read for these products - which cost $70-$90 complained of poor reliability and the difficulty of finding a spot on the FM wavelength to receive the signal as on drove around the country. This gadget has a plug that goes into the earphone jack, and a casette tape that goes in your tape deck. The iPod's music goes through your car's stereo system which is awesome if you have a good system in your car. This is inexpensive, simple to use, and pretty reliable. When using this for the first time, I had a moment of panic, because "this side up" on the tape meant putting the end with the line to the earphone jack in the tape deck; this of course did not fit. I then noticed a groove in the top of the casette. I was able to get the line into the groove and run across the top of the casette so it fit in the tape deck and came out to attach to the earphone jack. This wasn't explained in the instructions for the adapter and might frustrate someone unfamiliar with the adaptors. So now you know! Amazing Cassette Adapter I received this cassette adapter just yesterday. It works great with my Sansa View. I heard no fuzziness whatsoever unless I turned the volume all the way down to the minimum. The clarity and quality of the sound was radio quality or better. The only problem I had with it was not the cassette adapters fault. I have a car equipped with an automatic volume adjuster, so that as I gain speed (and thus increased wind/road noise), the volume of my stereo increases to compensate. When I had that set to its maximum compensation level (perfect for radio listening), the sound jumped by 2-3-4 levels instead of its normal smooth gradation, nearly blasting me out of the car. This was easily solved, of course, by putting the volume adjuster on its next to lowest setting. This almost spooked me into an accident, so I thought I should throw that out there to make sure others knew. But again, this is a great cassette adapter with perfect clarity and quality of sound. Well, well, well worth the price. Old interphase for old timers with cassette radios I just bought an IPOD, and wanted to plug it on my old cassette radio on my 96 Ford Explorer. It did its job, when the radio system did not work, due to station interference.

Belkin TuneCast II Mobile FM Transmitter - FM transmitter
From Belkin Components

Now you can use your PDA, MP3, CD, cassette player, PC, or laptop to listen to your favorite tunes through any FM stereo receiver. The Belkin TuneCast II Mobile FM Transmitter wirelessly connects portable music players to your car or home stereo quickly and easily using FM radio waves. Just plug the TuneCast II into the headphone jack of your PDA, MP3, CD, or cassette player; or connect it to your PC or laptop computer. Tune your car stereo or receiver to any clear FM frequency, and enjoy your music experience with more sound and fewer wires.

Pretty Useful I thought this was a pretty good product. My has worked great for me and I have had it for a long time. Doesn't work with Motorola RAZR V3M As far as FM Transmitters go, this one probably works as good as any of them out there. This unit shuts off after 60 sec. of no radio signal. According to Belkin tech support, there is no way to override this timeout. Because the RAZR uses a mini USB headphone jack, the user has to use the headset adapter (supplied with the phone or bought separately), an adapter to convert from 2.5 to 3.5, and then you can plug in to the FM transmitter. Because of all of these adapters, it doesn't see a radio signal therefore will only remain powered on for 1 minute at a time. Pretty darn useless for RAZR owners.

Home Travel AC Adapter Sync Connector Charger for Creative Vision M Zen Video Player
From PCMICROSTORE

1 Year Warranty
Brand: PCMicroStore Dimensions: .0 pounds

May work, or, may slowly destroy your Zen Vision M While this does indeed recharge the Creative Vision:M MP3 player, it is likely responsible for slowly cooking my Zen. My experience: Number one, when the Zen is plugged into this adapter, the touch pad becomes useless. unplug it, and you can use the touch pad again. Number two, I eventually wound up replacing the touch pad. Number three, a slight audible hum can be heard while listening to music with the Zen plugged in. Number four, My Zen began to need constant resetting and restarting after years of good performance. Eventually it became unuseable. I ordered a new battery, thinking that was a possible cause, and when I opened up the Zen to replace the battery, i noticed corrosion and heat damage both on the metal of the power supply and all around the power supply on the circuit board. I belive this adapter is responsible. BOTTOM LINE IS, IT WORKS. Purchased the Home travel Adapter for my Creative products. You can't beat the price for this item. And the bottom line is that it works. piece of junk I only gave this item one star because I can't give it a zero. It didn't fit into the slot of my creative zen at all. And yes, I did get the right one for the model CZ I have. Cheap enough that I threw it away instead of trying to get a refund at least.

Excellent Fidelity, but Wire to Plug Connection is Fragile I have been using my new Logitech "Ultimate Ears" 700 Noise-Isolating Earphones for most of the past weekend non-stop on my IPod. Most important, I am one of those people who like deep throbbing base! As I write this review, I am listening to Tom Petty's "You Wreck Me Baby," having recently listened to my collection of Petty, Steely Dan, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Given the physical limitation of ear pieces, I understand that there are practical constraints. Yet the base is strong, clear, and comes across distinctly from the other components of each track. (You like soft rock? Listen to your Carpenters music on these earphones. You can hear what a perfectionist Richard Carpenter really was. They make Brian Wilson's vocal arrangements sound even better.) To backup a bit and for context, up to this point I had been dealing with the headphones that came from Apple with the IPod. Not only are they low fidelity, but they never fit snugly into both ears! I excercise with my I-pod, and I had resorted to wearing light headphones, which are no real solution. Now I use one of the medium silicon ear pieces (right ear) and one of the large (left ear). When I loop the wire above both ears, running doesn't dislodge the earphones. The literature describes Logitech's goal to minimize outside noise, and this is accomplished so well that I have to be careful when running because I can't rely on my hearing anymore to determine if traffic is coming up behind me. Also, my wife has been a little irritated now and then when I don't respond as quickly as I have in the past when she is trying to get my attention. I am also a big fan of movie soundtracks and in particular, Thomas Newman. On my collection from "Meet Joe Black," in particular, the strings and soft orchestral backgrounds sound fantastic with the "Ultimate Ears." I am picking up electronic sounds I hadn't previously noticed in my Natalie Imbruglia and Imogen Heap collections. The mid-ranges are nice as well, and the split between right and left is great. What a blessing it is to hear silence from moment to moment in a song, when there is supposed to be silence! Note: Sometimes I like to play some of the tracks a little louder than I should. The first few tracks I played this way (within minutes of opening the package), seemed to have a little distortion associated with some of the vocals, which concerned me. I went to the "settings" on my IPod and changed the "EQ" setting to "Loudness." This setting works great for me because I've had difficulty trying to re-create any distortion on this setting, even with the volume turned way up. "Ultimate Ears 700" make all the difference in the world in the quality of the sounds coming from my IPod, as well as the places and activities where I can use it. I will update the text of my review over the next several months as my learnings increase. I have had good luck changing the EQ settings for different type of music at different volumes. ("Loudness" seems to work best for me.) And I'm still on the lookout for distortion. I'll let you know how that goes. UPDATE (8/16/09): I have damaged the connection where the wire attaches to the plug-in. Perhaps this was the complaint of the earlier negative reviewer. In between uses, instead of disconnnecting the "Ultimate Ears," rolling them up, and carefully storing them in their case, I left the plug in and wrapped the cord around my I-Pod before stuffing everything into my pocket. One week of this, and now they only work when I move the cord around (like driving with a stick shift) until I get a momentary connection. Aware that I didn't treat them well, potential buyers should treat their "Ultimate Ears" better than I did. However, they should also know that the engineering of the wire connection falls way short of the great engineering of the sound fidelity. I am going to call Logitech to get their input. Ultimate Ears 700 - A Very Good Feature Mix For Upper-Mid-Range Earphones The Ultimate Ears 700 Noise Isolating Earphones are a good quality premium set of in-ear monitors. After several weeks of thoroughly testing these earphones and comparing them to the army of others that I own, my impressions have improved. These earphones have many of the best qualities that those seeking compact in-ear monitors (IEMs) are looking for. In each individual category, however, they are mostly bested by alternatives. You will have to review the entire range of features and decide if these provide the right blend of strong points to meet your needs. WHO SHOULD BUY THESE EARPHONES? These might be the right head-phones for you if you: 1. Are demanding about sound and really want better low-end sound reproduction than most compact IEMs. 2. Need good sound isolation and have normal to small ear canals 3. Need a compact set of earphones that can be inserted deeply for wearing under a helmet (such as during motorcycle riding) 4. Need a high quality cable without any memory and with minimal wire feedback (this pair's best feature) 5. Need a comfortable fit with good quality tips. WHO SHOULD CONSIDER ALTERNATIVES? You may benefit from considering the alternatives if you have one or more of the following needs. 1. Those who want the very best sound are probably still better off stepping up to the UE TripleFi 10 Pros, which have three unique drivers which result in the best low-end sound production out of any IEMs I have tested. Please note that those sell for much more than these. Similarly, the Shure SE530s have an amazing sound and superior comfort, though those units are not only twice as expensive they also have some build issues. Still, for those looking for the best sound possible in IEMs, those units deserve a look. 2. Those who need the best sound isolation should consider the Etymotic ER6is, ER-4Ps, HF2s or the HF5s depending on whether they prefer compact (ER6is, ER4Ps) or larger (HF2s, HF5s) body shapes. The flanged design of the ER tips are simply unmatched at sound isolation. The tips with the UE 700s are good , but can be easy to install improperly. If your tip size is slightly too small and you install too deep, you will lose isolation and hear a pop. The ER tips are just much better designed to help avoid that possible mistake. 3. Similarly, the ER6is are very compact and can also be used for motorcycle riding. Because of the improved isolation, there is less risk of having the seal pop while you're riding, which is a very uncomfortable situation to be in. The trade off is sound quality. The ER6is are a good compromise, and sound good. The UE 700s sound better, and fuller, even if they are not as efficient. Both units should be handled with care since the build quality is only moderately good. But considering the ER6is are half the price, it's a serious consideration for those willing to sacrifice a little bit of sound quality. The ER4Ps are closer in price, and honestly may sound slightly better then these. I will need more time comparing them before forming an opinion on that. 4. Those who don't want a compact IEM that buries itself into your ear canal should probably consider the UE Superfi 5 Pros. They also have the same dual-driver technology that produces very nice sound, but they have the longer body of the classic UE IEMs. I also somewhat prefer the tips of those, having owned the Ultimate Ears SuperFi 3s and some re-branded UE phones made by other manufacturers. They come with the option of a wider dual flanged tip that is good for those with wider ear canals. THE FEATURES The sound quality of these is very good. They are based on Ultimate Ear's signature dual-driver configuration with separate high and low drivers. The sound isn't quite as full as other higher end units, and the efficiency isn't as high. That means you have to turn up your volume a little more with these to get the same sound level you would with the Superfi 5Pros or the like. But the clarity is very good. In tests with uncompressed and low compression formats this set performed very well in the sound department. Sound quality was good even before break-in and improved slightly after. Included with the earphones is a plastic case that is held closed by one side, while the other side is just a plastic hinge. I am definitely dreading the day that breaks. There is also a sound attenuator that will help to protect your phones and your hearing if you have to hook up to an unstable sound source, such as on an airplane. However, they don't include the double pronged jack you need to plug in on most airplanes. There isn't sufficient room to keep the attenuator or the extra tips in the case so you will have to store them elsewhere. The foam tips included with this set are better than other foam tips that come with my Etymotics. The silicone tips are made from good quality silicone. The problem with them, alluded to above, is that their rounded shape means they feel like the perfect size, but may break the seal if you push them at the wrong depth or angle. So those who normally use a medium tip will have to size up to the large, and push it in past the point of comfort. I have sensitive ears and it took me about two weeks to adjust to these. The product picture and box suggests you should wrap these around your ears for active use, such as while running. Actually, you should do it for any use. By limiting the pulling of wearing these straight down, it limits the wire sound that all IEMs have to some degree. The cable is such good quality I didn't hear any wire-movement sounds when these were properly installed. There is a red plastic on one side so you can tell left from right, another UE trait that is a very useful feature. The body of these is a light plastic, but with that always comes possible durability concerns. I will only be able to update my findings about durability after 6 months of extended use. Needless to say, I would not be using these for running as they suggest on the box. CONCLUSION These are great IEMs, and may be one of the better quality compact earphones out there. However, if you don't mind slightly larger units, there are other alternatives that may be better overall. I am still glad I got these. Some of the features are very good, and the quality is noticeable. Depending on your budget and your needs, you should review your alternatives. Enjoy. Excellent IEMs - Handle With Care The Ultimate Ears 700 Noise Isolating Earphones are an excellent set of inner ear monitors (IEMs) that have some amazing features and qualities. I have one issue with their durability, but despite that I am happy to give the UE 700s a high recommendation. Note that during listening sessions with the 700s I compared them with a set of Denon AHC751K In-ear Headphones and a set of full sized Sennheiser HD-595 Premier Headphones. When appropriate below I will note comparisons to the Denons and Senns. Build and fit - OK. These are by far the smallest IEMs I've owned, and smaller than any armature driver IEMs Ultimate Ears has put out before; these are the first earphones I can wear while laying on my side (if I wished to). Sound is produced by dual balanced armature drivers, which generally produce higher quality results than dynamic speakers found on less expensive earphones. The 700s come with a 45" symmetrical cord, a sound level attenuator, and a plastic carrying case. UE also supplies multiple tip options (S, M, L silicone tips, standard size Comply foam tips) to help users get a good seal with the 700s, which is essential for optimal performance. I used the large silicon tips and large Comply foam tips (That I purchased) for listening; unfortunately the supplied medium Comply tips were a bit too small for my ears. My issue with the durability of the UE 700s is that after using these for several lawn mowing sessions, which tend to be sweaty endeavors, I found that the "liquid metal" finish began flaking off. Other than sweat from the noted outside activities, I've not abused the UEs and always stored them properly, so I'm a bit disappointed that the finish is this fragile. So note that the "liquid metal" finish is just a very thin film over plastic, and should be treated gently; save your heavy physical activity for some el-cheapo IEMs. Sound - excellent. The bass is comparable to my Senn 595s - accurate and analytical. At first, using the silicone tips, I felt that on some material (NIN "Closer", Steely Dan "Aja") I wished there was a bit more oomph in the lowest frequencies. But after swapping out the silicon tips with the Comply foam tips I found that the bass increased significantly and was no longer an issue. The mids are forward but well balanced and the treble is clear. With the silicone tips there seems to be a boost in the 6 KHz to 10 KHz range that adds a bit too much sparkle to the treble, but the Comply tips help here as well. The overall sound of the 700s is great, and I have been enthralled with how well vocals are handled. Compared to all my previous headphones / IEMs, the UE 700s seem to lift a veil that was previously placed between the singer and me. Guitar, piano, and other instruments also have a clarity and immediacy that I have not experienced before. Other stuff - Microphonics were present but no worse than for other IEMs I own, and wearing the cord around the ear reduced the problem considerably. Sound isolation was also typical for IEMs; the foam tips blocked out a bit more sound than the silicone tips. Conclusion - highly recommended. I love the small size, wonderful clarity, and fine handling of vocals and instruments of these IEMs. With the Comply tips I am also satisfied with the bass performance and overall tonal balance. Other than committed "bass-heads" who demand that their skulls be bashed about by subsonic thunder, I can't think of too many people that would not be happy with the UE 700s. Just treat them gently and enjoy.
